Tongren Railway Station Square is conceived as a welcoming garden at the city's transport gateway, bringing passenger circulation, interchange and a landscape informed by local culture into one design. Drawing on local Buddhist and Nuo traditions, landscape elements such as the Renyi Tower and Renyi Altar give form to the themes of Tongren's mountains and waters and its hospitality.
An open forecourt in front of the station meets a series of stepped landscape terraces. Axes run through paving, pools and groups of trees, giving pedestrian movement a clear direction. White walls define the garden's edges, while steps and bridges connect places to pause. The tall tower provides a distant marker; water, shade and openwork screens draw attention back to the immediate surroundings. Open circulation areas alternate with more intimate garden spaces, accommodating waiting, walking and rest alongside the movement of passengers.
Large transfer garages sit beneath the landscape, allowing transport facilities and a public garden to share the limited station-front site on different levels. Interchange entrances, accessible routes and surface paths are planned together, connecting transfers with movement through the square. Leaving the station, crossing the garden and continuing a journey thus also becomes an encounter with the city's landscape and culture.
