Sandu No. 4 High School connects courtyard clusters with corridors and adapts to the terrain through stepped terraces. It brings secondary and primary schools together in a hillside campus with distinct zones and shared facilities. The secondary school occupies the north and the primary school the south, each with its own teaching and residential areas. A library, science centre, auditorium and art museum are grouped where the two schools meet, serving both.
The northern secondary school follows a branching layout. An administrative and teaching corridor runs lengthways along the ridge, with building groups extending across it and courtyards between them. The corridor connects the whole, while the courtyards divide the larger teaching area into smaller units with places to pause and meet between classes. The southern primary school adopts the courtyard arrangement of a traditional academy, grouping teaching spaces around courts. Covered corridors connect the functional areas, joining these two forms of organisation into a continuous pedestrian network.
Buildings and outdoor spaces are arranged at different levels in response to the terrain. The sports field occupies low ground and the gymnasium stands on the hilltop; terraces and roof platforms extend outdoor activity onto the buildings. This arrangement limits excavation and fill while accommodating campus activities at different elevations. Riverfront and valley landscapes connect the campus with its surroundings, while academy-like courtyards bring planting and outdoor activity into the building clusters.
