Personality, Locality and Modernism
Standardisation and individuality may appear contradictory, yet both are indispensable to modern architecture. The former represents the spread of technology and rationality in modern society; the latter reveals how culture qualifies that uniformity. In architectural practice they need to be integrated rather than set against one another: how can a universal modern architectural system create buildings with a distinctive character and a sense of place?
