Chetian Cultural Center uses local stone-building craft to house village-history displays, reading and craft learning. Three bands of rooms alternate with courtyards, linked by a partly open perimeter walk that continues the village lanes’ relationship between movement, pauses and conversation.
Stone walls retain cutting and masonry marks beside smooth black iron display panels and metal ceiling grilles. Courts admit white daylight; coloured rooflights and wall openings cast red and yellow light onto the stone. These contrasts give a familiar material new qualities of light and texture, making construction itself part of the cultural display.
